Lifeguarded Waterways



Carlow County Council employ river lifeguards  who are on duty commencing at 2pm until 5pm and  from 6pm to 8pm each day of the week on the River Barrow. The popular bathing locations on the River Barrow  at which the Council provide a lifeguard service are:

Clashganna Borris  - towpath areas adjacent to weir  and quay;

Bagenalstown - towpath areas adjacent to Boat Slip and Swimming pool.

Spanish Point; Lahinch; Fanore; Bishops Quarter, Ballyvaughan; Whitestrand; Milltown Malby; Seafield Quilty; Whitestrand Doonbeg; Kilkee; Cappagh Pier, Kilrush; Mountshannon; Ballycuggeran; Killaloe


Beach Lifeguards are employed in Cork for Weekends in June and full time for July & August. However this year due to the Hot Weather they are full time from the 25th of June. Then for the first two weekends in September, 10.30am - 7pm at the following beaches:

Youghal (Three Stations); Garryvoe; Garrettstown; Garrylucas, Tragumna, Inchydoney East & West (2); Owenahincha; Barleycove; Fountainstown

All of Fingal’s beaches are guarded from 11am to 7pm during the bathing season.

Lifeguards are provided for weekends only in June and daily throughout July and August. Lifeguards will be on duty on the Blue Flag beaches for the first two weekends only in September.

Arklow South Beach (Non Blue Flag Beach) from 12.30 pm to 6.30. pm daily, during July and August.

Wicklow Harbour (Non Blue Flag Beach) from 11.00. am to 7.00 pm daily, during June, July and August.
